THE NORTH EAST REBELS; REBELS WITH A CAUSE!

BY JONAH WOULLARD

If you have never heard of the North East Rebels 90 pound squad, well let me introduce them to you. Since this Rebels team entered the American Youth Football League, they have racked up 26 consecutive wins, won the 2010 AYFL championship on the Pee Wee division, undefeated thus far in the 2011 season, outscored their opponents 285 points to 18 points and defensively shut out 10 teams out 12 games this season.

Rebels’ Head Coach Dread told Generation Nexxt, “This is our football family; we’re successful because we believe in each other. Our coaches are like brothers, and our players are like our own kids. So when the Rebels take the field it’s not just the team, it’s the coaches, the parents, the fans, and the entire Rebels’ family.

The Rebels’ philosophy of a being a close family has propelled them to being one of the top teams in the American Youth Football League. The Rebels currently own the longest active AYFL winning streak, 26 consecutive AYFL wins. A major part of the Rebels’ success goes through their high scoring offense which led by the Rebels’ dynamic quarterback, #1 Leonard Shoultz and running back #5 Jaylin Collins who is a very hardnosed, yet elusive running back.

The North East Rebels take pride on being able to run right at teams. Majority of the offensive plays are drawn up to attack the middle of the oppositions’ defense. This aggressive offensive line is coached up by, Coach Duval, who teaches the technique that smash mouth football is the only way to play on the O-Line. The offensive line is anchored by the Rebels’ center, #50 Jazonte Irving, right guard, #56 Dudval Myers, left guard, #63 Jacques St. Stillarie and tight end, #16 Tacoby Becklum.

We all know that the offense sales tickets, but defense wins championships, and that is just why the Rebels trust in their defensive coordinator to make the right calls. Rebels’ defensive coordinator, Coach Joe believes he has the best defensive unit in the AYFL. Coach Joe told Generation Nexxt, “It is all about knowing your talent, then putting your talent in the right place to make big plays. Our kids are ball hogs, where ever you find the ball, you’ll find eleven Rebels that will smack you and smack you hard.”

This stout North East defensive unit is led by three tough defensive tackles, #57 Darius Adams, #55 Keynen Tucks and #54 Joshua Presume. Backing up this tenuous defensive line, are two of the quickest linebackers you’ll see on the 90 pound division, #5 TaeVonte Cunningham and #3 Keyon Todd.  Head Coach Dread said, “I am really proud of all my coaches, especially my rookie coach of the year, Coach Hall. Our coaches are dedicated; they are mentors and great teachers. Without this staff we wouldn’t have won 26 games in a row in the AYFL.”

With a recent win over the Coral Springs Chargers in the first round of the playoffs, the Rebels are Rebels with a cause. That cause, is to achieve an undefeated season and hold up a Super Bowl and a State Championship trophy at the end of the year.
