The New North Dade Bulldogs Keep Old Winning Traditions!

BY Jonah Woullard(Miami Gardens) – This past offseason, so much has changed in the South Florida area pertaining youth football; the development of new youth football leagues, the downsizing of particular leagues, increasing numbers at existing programs, and youth football programs changing their long time allegiances from league to another.
Even though the once known Bunche Park Cowboys team traded in their blue & grey jerseys in the offseason for their newly acquired black & gold Bulldogs’ uniforms, the grid-iron product is evidently the same.
The core of players and coaches of the North Dade Bulldogs 100’s have been together for the past four years, sporting an extremely impressive record, 51-1; only losing to the Scott Lake Vikings two years ago in the regular season at the 80 pound level. The same year of that regular season loss, the Cowboys won out the remaining of that season, winning the Super Bowl Championship.
In the off season, the Bulldogs were also impacted by the big changes in the Florida youth football landscape. Loosing players to different programs, the talk was the Bulldogs’ 100 lb. team would not be the same. But as much as the Bulldogs had lost, they felt they gained by the new editions to their team.
One of the biggest challenges the Bulldogs will face early in this season, was the highly anticipated match up against the undefeated Scott Lake Vikings 100’s. The Vikings, coming off a big win against the Ft. Lauderdale Hurricanes, also have new editions to their coaching staff, as well as new players; increasing their overall talent level.
The Vikings and Bulldogs took center field at the Betty T. Ferguson center this past Saturday to battle it out for Florida Youth Football League-100 pound supremacy.
The Bulldogs, head coached by, Chavis Wright, wasted no time; setting the tone early in the game. On the first offense series the Bulldogs’ all-star, #2 Willie “Polamalu” Floyd displayed his track speed, accelerating past the linebackers, taking an angle to the end zone, outrunning the safety 52 yards for a touchdown, putting the Bulldogs up, 8-0.
The Bulldogs’ defense clamped down on the Vikings’ offense the entire afternoon. Bulldog’s cornerback, #8 Keith Murray, put on a defensive clinic. Breaking up two potential pass plays, and coming up on run support for 4 quarters, preventing any hopes of outside sweeps for the Vikings.
Both of the Bulldogs’ defensive tackles, #9 Terrance Tate and #99 Robert Griffin dominated the line of scrimmage, disrupting the Vikings’ offense from the first snap of the ball, to the game ending whistle. This aggressive line play seemed contagious for the Bulldogs’ as North Dade’s tailback #5 Chavis Wright Jr. seemly broke a play wide open, and sprinted for a 49 yard touchdown. But the play was called back on a holding penalty.
In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs’ offense would strike again. North Dade’s running back, simply known as #4 “Ant” shook the middle linebacker with a stop & go move, and then he was off to the races, sealing the victory for the undefeated North Dade Bulldogs 100’s. Bulldogs 16 – Vikings 0
The Bulldogs increase their winning streak that goes back to 2010, with one of the most impressive active youth football winning streaks, with a record of (31-0). Putting their stake in why the Bulldogs should be ranked #1 in the Power Rankings!
